A judge has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mark James, a gay man due to be sentenced for knowingly passing HIV to his partner, after he failed to attend London’s Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday.

James, who lived in West Sussex at the time of his first conviction, originally admitted causing grievous bodily harm to his partner before trying unsuccessfully to change his plea.

The court heard back then how he continued to have unprotected sex with his partner despite testing positive for HIV and syphilis in April 2004. Judge Lowen described his actions at the time as ‘callous’.
