Best Director

I won the Oscar award for Best Impersonation of a Telephone Directory last night in the Franklin Festival 2007. My cast of Gillian Klette and Patrick Connolly performed admirably – Patrick even won a special mention and an empty Coke bottle for his troubles.

It was called Room Eight-Zero-Seven, by Geoff Bamber.

Next time I plan to win best show, by actually putting a little effort into the set.

WEEK: 09 – 13 JULY 2007

Lesbian Killing: We Demand Justice!

(July 9, 2007) The South African lesbian and gay communities through the Joint Working Group* and partner organisations STRONGLY CONDEMN the killing of Sizakele Sigasa (34) and Salome Masooa (23) from a township in Johannesburg. They were found (Sunday 8th July) murdered, execution style, in a nearby field in Meadowlands; a shocking image that is not so new in South Africa in the light of the recent increase in violence and rape against women either identified as, suspected of or supporting lesbian and gay rights.

I'm migrating web hosts soon. Once I've sorted out the virtual domain story with qmail, I'll switch over. Hopefully nothing will be lost in the transfer. I plan to complete this during the month of August.

So long

Bill Flynn, who was the star in "A Funny Thing Happened" which we were due to see tomorrow night, has died. Condolences to the family and loved ones. His talent will be sorely missed.

Rich pickings …

Zimbabwe: a country in turmoil. Speculation that the Zim dollar would be linked to the SA Rand was denied (thankfully), but the most original response to the problem has been suggested: overthrow the government and take Zimbabwe on as another province of South Africa. It has a rich environment in terms of mineral deposits, mines, farmland, and so forth. It's original and thought-provoking.

In other news, the Pope (Vitamin B-16 as others refer to him) has declared once again that the Catholic Church is the one true church, and that Protestants have it all wrong.

Rich pickings for your thoughts today.

Lion King

We saw "The Lion King" last night at Montecasino's new Teatro theatre. Technically brilliant, with the most awesome props, costumes and set, and some dazzling voices. I recommend it. Pity about the lame audience who insisted on clapping every time a new puppet / model made its way onto the stage. It ruins the atmosphere completely. As did the "this is the scary part" girl sitting behind me every time Scar's entrance music played. Ah well, if it weren't for the audience, we wouldn't have the show. Go see it.

Work fun

Whilst we attempt to completely overhaul the MIS architecture at work, the odd light moment can result in hours of merriment.

A colleague who requested anonymity, had printed out a stack of 12 pages in Excel on our new printer, and complained that it had printed out in reverse. He proceeded to demonstrate how it went from 12 to 11 to 10, and so on.

I picked up the stack and turned it over.
